FRONTIER VS NORITSU

Who doesn’t love options.

At Laz, we are proud to offer the choice between two industry leading film scanners - the Fujifilm Frontier SP-3000 and the Noritsu LS-600.

Both of these are capable of scanning 35mm film, and all 120 film is done through the SP-3000.

Some contributing factors to consider when choosing your scanner -

  • film stock

  • subject matter/desired aesthetic

  • lighting conditions

  • any reference images or previous orders

The Frontier SP-3000 is often preferred for colour film, due to the exceptional highlight detail and colour pay off. We find the scans slightly warmer, with a classic aesthetic and the film glow we all know and love. Contrast can be adjusted but is generally a little stronger than the Noritsu. Black frame/full frame scans can only be done on the SP-3000, so if that’s your jam, the Frontier is for you.

The Noritsu LS-600 is undoubtedly our go to for B&W film, but the colour results offer an excellent alternative to the Frontier. The Noritsu offers sharper and crispier details with slightly cooler tones. This is a little closer to a digital looking image but maintains the softness of film. Chat to us in-store about your desired look and we’ll happily point you in the right direction.
